Marcos Chavez

Principal & Creative Director, TODA

Marcos Chavez is a communication designer, design education and social entreprenuer from New York City.   

 

Marcos is a founding partner of TODA (toda.com) and has led the New York office since it's establishment in 1999. As Principal and Creative Director of Visual Communication, Marcos has worked with a variety of clients including Revlon, Samsung, Johnson & Johnson and AIGA.

 

Prior to establishing TODA, Marcos was the design director for Liska + Associates, New York. In 1993, Marcos began his work at Liska + Associates as a senior designer in the Chicago office. Marcos then moved to New York City in 1996 to establish the Liska + Associates New York office. During his tenure as design director, Marcos produced a variety of package designs, corporate and brand identities and communication materials for clients such as: American Crew, Yale University, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the New York Stock Exchange. Prior to joining Liska + Associates, Marcos was the senior designer with Michael Stanard, Inc. in Evanston,Illinois. Marcos has also interned with Inside Chicago Magazine and at Din & Pangrazio, Inc.

 

Marcos is an established design educator with ongoing part time faculty positions at Parsons The New School For Design and past postions at The Art Institute of New York City. He has taught communication design classes which include; Branding, Typography, Media Design, Advertising, and Marketing design.

 

He is also a founding partner of DERT (dertbook.com), a social venture that works with emerging designers to activating books into fundraising tools that raise money for literacy programs. 

 

Marcos is also a former partner of ROOM Studio, a commercial photography rental space.

 

Marcos has been recognized for excellence by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Art Director’s Club and the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. His design work has been featured in Communication Arts, PRINT and, How Magazine as well as in design annuals compiled by Graphis, The American Center for Design and Rockport Publishing.

 

Marcos has been an ongoing participent in DesigNYC, a local communicty advocacy group that seeks to Improve the lives of New Yorkers through the power of good design. TODA has been a pro-bono design partner for 2 of the programs' projects as well as Marcos being a team advisor.

 

Marcos earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an Associate degree in Media Technology from Andrews University. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Amairis, and their four children, Kai, Demi,Ren and Ghedi.
